What to Wear in April When You Can’t Be Doing With the Rain Anymore

It’s evident by now that April isn’t warming up the way we’d like it to. So what do you wear when spring isn’t quite making an appearance and you can’t be doing with the rain anymore? Take outfit inspiration from some of our favourite influencers, of course. After trawling through their Instagram accounts, we managed to come up with 12 key looks that are ideal for any sort of changeable weather. From cool layered outfits to co-ords that are right for the office (and won’t have you freezing), there are plenty of ideas you’ll want to copy immediately. Keep scrolling for everything you need to know.

Style Notes: First up, April is the month to get acquainted with some clever layering. Think of lighter pieces that will keep you warm on chillier spring days. This look is exactly what we mean: A polished shirtdress worn with trousers and chic flats.

Style Notes: Still not ready to give up your cosy clothes post-winter? Right now there is a load of slouchy co-ords around (hi, Zara) that are still smart enough for the office. Just pair with ankle boots or loafers.

Style Notes: Other than checks and rainbow stripes, the other huge pattern trend for this season is definitely polka dots. Whether they’re on a dress, swimming costume or top, you’ll find them everywhere.

Style Notes: The bomber is an item that rarely goes out of fashion. It’s an ideal spring jacket too, as it gives you a bit of warmth without making you feel boiling if the sun finally decides to make an appearance. Pair with jeans, a hoodie and an It bag—such as this one from Wandler.

Style Notes: Checked coats were huge for street stylers this past fall, and they continue to be in the new season. Here, Freddie Harrel opts for the ultimate: two checked jackets on at once. (Now that’s true dedication to the trend.)

Style Notes: It comes as no surprise that dresses are super popular around springtime. But how to wear them right now? Lucy Williams’s option is one of our favourites—just pair your frock with some cool sneakers and a leather jacket.

Style Notes: The suit has made a real comeback this season. For the warmer months, invest in a pastel two-piece that can be worn with sneakers.

Style Notes: The classic blazer-and-heels combo is always a winner—whatever the season. For April, might we suggest replacing your dark blazer with a lighter-coloured version and pairing it with jeans and bright kitten heels?

Style Notes: Have a pair of new-season sandals in your wardrobe that you’re desperate to wear? Pair them with jeans and a duster coat to give yourself some warmth (and so you don’t look silly in case of a sudden downpour).

Style Notes: Green is a notable standout colour (other than yellow) this season. If you’re not keen on a green dress (even though this one has a huge waiting list), then try a jumper.

Style Notes: Come April, you’ll want to switch out your heavy-duty tote for something a little lighter. Try a basket or net bag.

Style Notes: The coolest accessories colour right now? Yellow, of course. Best paired with a utilitarian jumpsuit such as this one from Mango.

And just like that, you’ve got your rainy springtime looks mapped out. Take that, April.
