You Actually Only Need 10 Pieces for a Complete Spring Capsule Wardrobe

Four different seasons with four ever-changing sets of style rules can threaten to burn a hole in even the savviest of shoppers’ pockets. Us Brits have it hard, don’t we? Well, fear not, because you have in on good authority (from, well, us) that this spring’s wardrobe reshuffle needn’t take more than 10 carefully picked items. Yep: You can get your spring style entirely on point without the need to sacrifice that weekend away you had planned. From the coat to purchase to the trainers you’ll buy and have worn to death by summer, these are the pieces you’ll need for your spring capsule wardrobe.

We hate to put a damper on things, but you’ll probably still need a coat this spring, and there’s really no other choice than the trench coat this year. Chic detective vibes incoming.
We all know that spring and florals go together like winter and shearling, but this year it’s about making sure they feel vintage. For extra style points, wear over jeans.
If you’re going to buy one new pair of heels as part of your capsule spring wardrobe, our only piece of advice? Go bold. Not-so-classic ’80s-style pumps were huge on the runways. Think magenta pinks and satin sheens.
Belts are big news now, so get yourself one so solid and trusty you’ll find yourself using it for everything—on your high-waisted trousers, cinching at the top of your pencil skirt, or wrapped round your trench coat.
For your denim hit, straight-leg styles aren’t going anywhere, while skinny jeans are set to make a surprise resurgence. As for detail, contrast-stitching is a denim trend we’re coveting at the moment.
You heard it from us: thick-soled and heavy-duty is the way to wear your kicks right now, so buy accordingly.
This ’50s wardrobe staple is back on the agenda, recently touted by Miucci Prada. If you’re wary of the skintight versions that conjure images of officewear stock photos, add interest with pleats, high waists and chunky belts.
What to wear over your vintage floral dress? A plaid blazer—the preppy print will still be storming on into summer.
A trouser suit will be the smartest investment you can make for spring—just ask Emily Ratajkowski, who decided to get wed in one—and the high street is brimming with options.
Seriously, anything covered in polka dots will set you right for spring. The ’80s print is enjoying a moment: Try a dainty polka-dot blouse or a silk skirt à la Ganni.

Anyone else want to buy all 10?
